Dwight Burkhalter, Sr.

Reflections of His Life Dwight Burkhalter Sr.

Dwight Burkhalter Sr. was born August 2, 1949 in the Warrior Community west of Checotah, Oklahoma. His parents were Jiles Burkhalter and Arnetta Eagle. His early life was nurtured in the home of his grandmother, Iserene Smith, and Great Grandmother, Dora Warrior. In this loving setting, Dwight developed his pleasant personality, love of community, devotion to family, and faith in God. Dwight’s formal education began at Warrior Elementary School. He graduated from Checotah High School in 1967. He expressed a hope in Christ at an early age and united with the Mt. Olive Star Baptist Church. There he received spiritual guidance under the tutorage and influence of his great- great- grandfather, the late Rev. William Warrior Sr., and the late Rev. Prince Maxwell Sr. In 1968, Dwight married Deborah Strange and to this union four children were born and raised. He did his best to provide for his family and to express his love for them. He was a long time employee of the Oaks Country Club where he was a valued employee. Family and friends were always important to Dwight. He enjoyed talking and laughing with them. He was happy doing things with and for his children and grandchildren, visiting his mother and his siblings. His favorite pastime was watching television, especially WWE Smack Down Wrestling. He leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Arnetta Eagle Davis of Checotah, His children Dwight Burkhalter, Jr., Danielle Burkhalter (Marko Sr.) Williams, Dejuan Burkhalter, and Devin Burkhalter, all of Tulsa; His brothers, Alvin (Vickie) Davis, Checotah; Randy (Dorthy) Davis, Bartlesville; Clarence, Checotah; and Garard (Jill) Davis, Owasso. His sisters, Charlszetta Burkhalter (Rufus) Lyons, Tulsa, Augustine Davis (Cleo) Minor, Carrollton, TX; Shelia Davis, Checotah and sister-in-law Charlene Leake Davis, Edmond. His grandchildren Brittany, Breanna, Boogie, Ma’Ryia, Lenasja, Kyle, Le’Nayah, Mareyona, Marko Jr, Dekayri, DeMarquan, LaDerrion, Demazzzio, Demaurian, and Anthoni; and a number of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

Services for Mr. Dwight Burkhalter, Sr. will be Saturday February 22, 2014 at 2PM at First Baptist Church in Checotah, Oklahoma. Interment will follow at Warrior Cemetery in Checotah.
