Mrs. Ada Kellum, after 95 years, took up residence with the Master in Glory on Saturday, June 9, 2007, from Tulsa, Oklahoma.
On June 20, 1911, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, John and Molly Brown McCargo welcomed a baby girl into their family. They named her Ada.
Later, the family moved to Slick, Oklahoma. Ada attended schools in the area. She accepted Christ at the age of eleven. Her Christian faith sustained her for the remainder of her life. At the age of twelve years old, Ada's mother passed away. Ada assumed the parenting role for her siblings. This taught her responsibility.
In October of 1929, Ada married Earnest Kellum. To this union, eleven children were born, of which one was stillborn. She raised her biological children and took an active role of parenting grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. If they lived in her house, they were expected to attend worship services.
She truly cared for the welfare of others. She helped to care for the sick in the community. She was an early riser. She began her day with Christian devotion. She can be remembered singing as she cooked breakfast and went about her daily chores. Immediately after breakfast, she began preparation for the evening meal, and ended her day with devotion. She taught her children about the Lord, inspired, and encouraged them to be the best they could be.
Ada loved to read, and Christian literature was her favorite. She had an extensive library. Her other hobbies included quilting, gardening, and canning.
Ada was active in her church and community. She held offices in the following churches/organizations; Rogers Chapel Baptist Church, Land Mark Baptist Church, Bristow Singing Convention, Sunday School Institute, Independent Northwest Creek District Association, and Magdalene Chapter #70 Order of The Eastern Star.
Preceding her in death: her husband, Earnest Kellum, daughter, Anna Jordan, sons-in-law, Raymond Curtis, Celister Thompson, and William Union.
