As the sun was rising on October 20, 1918, it meant the beginning of the life of Adeline L. Dunn. This beautiful baby girl was born to J. and Josephine Madison.
Adeline grew up in Ft. Smith, AR, where she received her formal education. Later in life, she met and then married her life-long companion, Theodore Whitfield, Sr. 7 children were born from this union. She remained a widow for 58 years after his death.
Mrs. Whitfield maintained several jobs throughout her life to support her family. She pursued a career in Nursing. Adeline began her nursing career in Ft. Smith and later moved to Sallisaw before retirement from Tower Hill Nursing Home in Muskogee.
She was best described as "Shorty." She enjoyed sewing, cooking, fishing, working puzzles and was an avid Muskogee Rougher Fan. She was concerned about everyone around her. Her priority was insurning others needs were met, even before her own.
The final curtain of life closed for Adeline Whitfield on Tuesday morning, December 5, 2006. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughters, Barbara McConnell and Betty Morgan, her sons, Theodore Whitfield, Jr., and James Whitfield, her best friend, Hazel Wilkerson, a cousin, Bernice Ragsdale and her great-greatgrandson, Sir Bryant.
She leaves to continue her legacy; her children, Bea Bea Whitfield [Clayborne], San Diego, California, Mary Jackson, Inez Whitfield, Willie Whitfield, Jr., [Pauline], Felicia Teague [Kenneth], all of Muskogee, Melvin Gray [Linda], Ft. Gibson; one very special sister-in-law, Claude Whitfield, Ft. Smith, AR; 36 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; along with a caravan of other nieces, nephews, cousins, other loved ones and friends.
The Service of Remembrance for Mrs. Whitfiled will be on Wednesday, December 13, 2006 at 10:00 A.M. in the Bethel AME Church, Pastor Kristyn Paschal, the Host Pastor and Pastor Loren Welch, Eulogist. Burial will follow in the Greenhill Cemetery. You may visit Mrs. Whitfield, as she slumbers at the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc., on Tuesday, from 12 Noon until 7 PM.
