Mr. Albert Buffington, after 73 years, transitioned from earth to everlasting on Thursday morning, September 27, 2012 from Muskogee.
Albert was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma on April 9, 1939 to Ted Luster and Ophelia Buffington. Affectionately referred to as "Al" by family and friends, he accepted Christ into his life at an early age and began his education in Muskogee at Douglas Elementary and Sadler Junior High Schools, before graduating from Historic Manual Training High School with the proud Class of 1957.
After high school, Al moved to Des Moines, Iowa, where he worked for several years before enlisting in the United States Air Force. He served his country honorably until 1968.
He was married to Ruth Owens in 1978 in Las Vegas, Nevada. No children were born from this union. However, Al was blessed with two daughters from previous marriages which were dissolved.
Later in life, Al worked for Muskogee Regional Medical Center Pharmacy and teh Veterans Affairs Office for Retired Veterans. He transferred to Anchorage, Alaskain 1987, where he workd as a Veterans Affairs Representative until his retirement. He returned to Muskogee in 2010.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, Celestine, Francille, Aresia and Almetra.
Those left ot honor his memory; his loving wife, Ruth, of the home in Muskogee; two daughters, Laverne Collins, Chicago, Illinois and Crystal Smith, Des Moines, Iowa; a brother, Charles Buffington [Pam], Muskogee; 3 nieces; 4 nephews; 5 great-nephews and nieces; two special sisters, Bertha Brown and Shirley Hargrove; his Aunt, Mozella Gilyard, Kansas City, Missouri; an Uncle, Arthur Thomas, Los Angeles, California; his mother-in-law, Eula Owens, Chicago, Illinois; his brothers-in-law, Donald Owens [Paulette], Nick Owens, Rab Owens, all of Chicago; two sisters-in-law, Clementine Owens and Cynthia Porter [William], Des Moines, Iowa; and a host of cousins and friends who will cherish his memory.
The Final Salute to Mr. Buffington will be held on Thursday, October 4, 2012 at 12 Noon at the First Lutheran Church. Pastor Wayne Schuett will officiate.
Burial will follow with Military Honors at the National Cemetery at Fort Gibson, Oklahoma at 2:00 PM.
