Obituary

Alde Hackett Jr. was born on Tuesday, September 5, 1939 to Rosie Wheat and Alde Hackett Sr., in Samantha, Alabama. After graduating in 1957, he joined the Army in 1962, 82nd Airborne, 505 Panthers. He served as M/Sgt E-9, 1st Sgt. He did two tours to Vietnam, 1963 and 1965, and got out of the Army in 1968.
Around March 22, 1970, Alde met Martha Rae Jones in Los Angeles, California. Two weeks later, on April 5, 1970, they were married in Tijuana, Mexico. Alde started working for Kirby as a salesman, and quickly rose through the ranks. He had a gift of connecting with people. Because of this gift, he and Martha went to Montego Bay, Jamaica, for a Kirby convention, as one of the top salesmen. He received more than a few trophies and plaques. They moved to Columbia, South Carolina, where they managed a motel.
On April 10, 1974, the Hacketts welcomed a beautiful baby girl. They didn't have a name picked out, so Alde left the hospital with a friend and drove around, thinking of a name. The end result of that mission was the name Phena, taken from the Fina gas stations. Alde treated his daughter like a princess, and she was, is, and always will be daddy's girl.
In 1981, the Hackett family moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, and in 1990, Alde retired from Kirby. Then, in 1994, the family moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, due to Martha's job transferring there. Just four years later, on April 16, Alde and Martha's granddaughter NeTanya was born. Alde took great pride in her and treated her like a princess.
Alde was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses at the District Convention on July 3, 1999. He served Jehovah to the best of his abilities until his death.
Years later, Alde started experiencing trouble with his knees and ended up having total knee replacement on both knees. He then experienced an illness that forced him to have the toes on his right foot amputated. Through the painful recovery and rehabilitation, he remained strong.
In the summer of 2015, he was reunited with his sister Janelle Hackett. We spent a week together with her and her son Billy. It brought joy to all of us, but especially to him and his sister for finding each other after 50 years. From then they spoke every week, discussing their lives and different sports games. We always knew when he was on the phone with his sister.
In 2016, he was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. He was surrounded by doctors and nurses who were very concerned with starting his chemo treatment. His first two rounds of chemo were completed. His test results showed improvement and our spirits and hopes were high. On the third day of his third round of chemo, Wednesday, August 24th, Alde and Martha went to the Infusion Lab and their daughter Phena met them up there. Alde was in good spirits as he received his chemo treatment. He was smiling, talking, and laughing. After getting home, he took his routinely scheduled nap. After his
nap, he fixed a big lunch, not needing his walker or cane for assistance with walking. That evening, at age 76, Alde had passed away in his sleep.
Alde Hackett Jr. was a caring man with a big heart. He had a gift for making people smile and bringing a little sunshine into their lives. He is survived by his lovely wife Martha, his daughter Phena, his granddaughter NeTanya, his sister Janelle, 3 step-brothers, nieces and nephews, cousins, and other family.
