Alexis Russell was granted her angel wings on March 1, 2015. Her final months were spent surrounded by family and friends that Alexis had touched in some way in her short very memorable life. Alexis's life may have seemed short to many. Those who were touched by her understood that the quality of her existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives. Her beautiful smile, contagious laughter, and outgoing personality brought joy to many. To know her was to love her.
She showed us all such courage, strength and hope. She reminded us just how precious life is.
There was nothing Alexis could not accomplish. Alexis was walking and talking in full sentences at 9 months old. Reading and writing by age 3. Alexis started her first job at Sonic when she turned 17 within 6 months she was promoted to assistant manager. Alexis graduated from Nathan Hale High School in 2011 while pregnant with her first born son Edward Rogers II, quite an accomplishment for a young mother. She then became pregnant with her second child Emery Rogers born in 2013. At which time Alexis was a stay at home mother. She loved being a mommy and was so proud of her beautiful children.
Alexis decided to get back in the workforce so she became employed at JC Penney's as a seasonal worker while pregnant with her third child. She missed her job at Sonic so she decided to go back. You can only imagine the food creations she came up with. She called one the pregnant lady sundae. She was such a hard worker and so eager to please. Alexis never gave up, such an admirable trait. Her sassy, bossy and fun loving personality always made you smile.
Alexis taught us all the true meaning of a mother's unconditional love. Alexis went into labor with her miracle baby Rashyia Gist while in a coma. Alexis overcame so many obstacles to stay and be there for her children and us. God seen she was weary and had struggled enough so he called her home. Alexis will always be an inspiration to us. She was the strongest woman I've ever known.
Alexis is preceded in death by her best friend and Grandfather Edward "Tootsie" Gildon, as well as grandparents James and Diantha Popplewell.
She is survived by her three beautiful children Edward and Emery Rogers and Rashyia Gist, her parents Samantha and Daniel Drew, Lemond Russell, Cassidy Parsley and Sheree Shaw, Grandparents Shirley Gildon, Virgie Engle, James and Esterlene Drew, Adolph Russell, and Billy Nunn, her brothers and sisters Jessica and John McGuire, Lemond Russell II, Elisa Neal, Bryant Shaw, Kayla, Heylea and Keyera Parsley,
