Obituary

Alfred Andrew Bowen Sr. was born November 11, 1953, the second son and third of five children to Minne Mae Warren-Jiles and Arthur Bowen in Muskogee, Oklahoma.

After the passing of his mother, Alfred moved to Idabel, OK and was raised by his aunt, Lenore (June) Wilson. His Aunt adored Alfred and showered him with love and affection. Alfred and his aunt moved to Muskogee where he finished school and lived there through his teens and into his twenties. With his aunt up and age and experiencing medical problems, and after caring for his sisters, Alfred moved to Muskogee and became a caregiver to his Aunt June for many years.

Alfred graduated from Muskogee High School in Muskogee, OK in 1973. After which, Alfred joined the Army and served his country for two years. When Alfred completed his military obligation, he returned to Oklahoma and began his career as a printer with Oklahoma Printing. Alfred worked in the printing field for many years and mastered his craft. Alfred met Jeanette PoorBuffalo and had a son Carl Edward. After that relationship ended, Alfred met and married Angela Davis. To this union he had one son, Alfred Andrew Bowen Jr. (Andrew). Although the marriage ended, Alfred and Angela were dedicated to their son and over the years, they grew to have a strong friendship.

Alfred was the "go to" person for his family and friends. There was hardly a problem that Alfred didn't know how to fix or he would work on it until he figured it out. Alfred was a surrogate father figure to many young men and boys and was a role model of what a good Black man represented. Alfred was known for being the sweetest, kindest, and grouchiest person there was. His nieces, nephews, younger cousins and extended nieces and nephews loved him tremendously, even when he corrected them.

Alfred is preceded in death by his mother, Minnie Mae, father, Arthur Sr., grandparents Edward and Bertha Warren. He is also preceded by his oldest sister Judy Kay Bowen and her son Brandon Bowen and his youngest sister Jane Karolyn Givens. Alfred was a caregiver to both Judy and Jane during their illnesses where he provided excellent and compassionate care.

Mr. Alfred Andrew Bowen, Sr., after 70 years of life, transitioned from "Time to Eternity" on Wednesday morning, January 17, 2024 from Norman, Oklahoma.

There are many who are left behind to forever cherish his memory: his "Mom" Lenore (June) Wilson (Muskogee, OK); his son Carl PoorBuffalo (Shanna)(Ada); his son Alfred Andrew Bowen Jr (Santa Ana, CA); his brother Arthur Bowen Jr (JoAnn) (San Leandro, CA); his sister June
Sheppard (Wylie, TX); his cousin and best friend Warren Taylor (Norman, OK); his special and favorite uncle, Michael Warren (Muskogee, OK); three grandsons TyRay, Camby and Jaymon PoorBuffalo all from Ada, OK; his Aunt Mary Roberts (Willie) (Tallahassee, FL) and Uncle Booker Warren (Eunice) (Atlanta, GA). Nieces and Nephews: Jerome, Bria and Shyla (Jane); and Annette (June). A multitude of cousins, many great-nieces and nephews, a great-great niece and nephew, extended nieces, and nephews, along with many, many friends.

Alfred accepted the Lord as his Savior at an early age and was dedicated to the end. Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of the Lord.
