Obituary

Mr. Alfred Matthew Ross, Sr., after "four-score" years, passed from life to everlasting on Saturday, November 26, 2011 from his home in Okmulgee.


Mr. Ross was born in Okmulgee on March 26, 1931, the son of Sterling and Mamie [Barre'] Ross and grew up in the Okmulgee community, where he attended Uganda Martyr's Catholic School. He worked for the United States Postal Service and spent portions of his life in Spencer, Oklahoma, Eufaula, Oklahoma and Okmulgee.


He was proud of his family legacy, "from share cropper to land owner" during his lifetime of accomplishments. Mr. Ross loved working with his cows, fishing and farming.


He leaves to continue the family legacy; his sons, Alfred M. [Pamela] Ross, Jr., Richmond, Virginia and Stephen Ross, Fort Worth, Texas; his daugher, Vickie Decquier, Roswell, Georgia; his brothers, Daniel [Anna Jean] Ross, and Sterling [Carol] Ross, all of Okmulgee; his sisters, Mary Edwards, Kansas City, Missouri, Mildred Wilson, Okmulgee, Oklahoma and Mattie IreneStineline, Raymore, Missouri; 7 grandchildren; along with a host of other relatives and friends.


Funeral Mass for Mr. Ross will be celebrated on Friday, December 2, 2011 at 10:30 AM in the Uganda Martyr's Catholic Church. Burial will follow the service in the National Cemetery at Fort Gibson, Oklahoma at 2:00 PM. A prayer vigil will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2011 at 7:00 PM in the Chapel of Peace at the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc.


You may visit Mr. Ross, as he slumbers in peaceful repose at the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc., on Thursday from 12 Noon until 7 PM in Okmulgee.
