Alfretta "Toy" Gist…So Beautiful

On April 26 1941, Bennie and Mary Jane Gist Sr. celebrated the birth of a precious baby daughter. They named her Alfretta Gist and she was the child born to this union.

She was a caring daughter, wife, mother, granny, sister, aunt, and friend to many. She will always be remembered for her caring, loving and unselfish spirit. She was a wonderful caretaker to her baby sister "Peggy" for over 33 years.

Alfretta was raised in Haskell, Oklahoma and attended Booker T. Washington High School graduating with the illustrious Class of 1959. After leaving Haskell Alfretta enjoyed traveling to many cities.

"Toy" was baptized at an early age and was a faithful member at Mt. Zion Baptist Church for over 30 years. During her time with the church she served on the financial committee until her health declined.

Alfretta was employed with Coweta Manor where she gave them 27 years of service. She was a dedicated, and loyal employee. While working there she received numerous awards, before retiring in 2002. Shortly after her sister Mattie moved to Haskell to help with the care of Peggy and Bennie Jr. "Toy" cherished the memories of traveling about with her Big Sis Mattie (Matt), family & friends.

Later in life on August 12, 2017 Alfretta moved to Kansas City, Missouri with her son Bobby. Bobby was a excellent caretaker for his mother, along with the help of Kansas City Hospice Group.

She was preceded in death by her devoted companion on 30 years, Henry "Star" Mayfield Jr. He was instrumental in helping raise her children. Her beloved parents, Bennie and Mary Jane Gist. Her siblings; three sisters Uthella, Mattie, and Rosetta. Three brothers Julius, Arthur, and Bennie Jr. (June). Her daughter Novella and son Renaldo.
