Obituary

Ms. Alice Faye Adams, in her 80th year, surrendered to the will of the Lord on Thursday morning, August 6, 2020 from Duncanville, Texas.

Her book of life opened on February 7, 1940, Alice Faye Hill, the oldest of 5 was born to the late Ruby and Devoy Hill Sr. in Idabel, Oklahoma.  At the tender age of 2, the family relocated to Muskogee, Oklahoma, where she attended Douglas Elementary, Sadler Jr. High and graduated from Historic Manual Training High School in 1958.
She accepted Christ at a young age and was a member of Rayfield Baptist Church early on. The pages were filled with many wonderful memories.  After graduating High School, her parents moved her to Denver Colorado.  With the support of a family friend, she was able to develop in a vigorous way.  From 1961 to 1968, she held various positions with the State of Colorado, including clerical and administrative positions. In 1968, she was employed with the Federal Government as an Executive Secretary in the Selective Service System Department.  She received a B.A. in Education at Metropolitan State College in 1975.  After 12 years with the City of Dallas, she retired in 2000 and returned to Muskogee to live with her mother to help with the care of her sister.
Alice spent many years as a Big Sister for Big Brothers and Sisters of Dallas, where she touched the lives of many young girls with her courage, determination and unfailing faith in God. From 1988 to 2000, she served as Secretary for the Grand Prairie NAACP.  Alice would never forget your birthday and would send the sweetest cards with handwritten messages. She loved music and enjoyed taking pictures of her family and friends.  Alice was very outgoing, enjoyed visiting theaters, museums, and concerts and last but not least, she was a dancing machine.  Her favorite was Jubilee Theater in Fort Worth where she was an active member.  She loved parties, family reunions, and traveling with her family and friends.
On March 11, 1961 she married Larry Earnest Abernathy and later that year gave birth to her second heartbeat, a beautiful baby girl, Kimila Denise Abernathy.
The final pages of the book of life closed for Alice F. Adams early Thursday morning, August 6, 2020. She is preceded in death by her parents (Ruby/Devoy), sisters (Linda Diane/Edna Mae) and brother (Devoy Jr).
She leaves to cherish her memory through her loving daughter, Kimila Abernathy (Katrina); sister, Dr. Safisha Hill, 5 extended grandchildren, 9 extended great grandchildren, 7 nieces, 5 nephews, 20 great nieces and nephews, and a host of friends and family who loved her dearly.
