Alice Marie McHenry was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She left this world suddenly on June 18, 2023, at age 84.

She was born to Ulysses and Carolyn Baker on November 10, 1938. Alice was the oldest of four siblings, and as the eldest she often cared for her siblings while her mother worked two to three jobs. Alice was ingenious and was always a hard worker. She was often promoted to jobs of increased responsibilities because of her quick wit and ability to lead others. This was also apparent during her school years in which Alice, a 1957 graduate of Booker T. Washington High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma, had academic success.

During the period when she was a single mom raising her two sons, Thomas and Jackie, Alice would work at local area venues taking pictures as a "Polaroid Girl" to help support her children. Alice was all about ensuring that her boys had all of what they needed and most of what they wanted. Alice was a State of Oklahoma employee for over 35 years, where she used her gift of helping others who faced challenges. After retiring from the State of Oklahoma, Alice began working for and retired from Independent Opportunities, an organization that provides services to residents of Oklahoma with special needs. She was always a giver.

Alice's favorite saying to her sons was: "Thomas/Jackie, you really need to think about it", and she would also often say, "What's the plan?" Yes, she was a planner.

Alice met the love of her life, Herman McHenry, while visiting Redbird, Oklahoma. They had a very loving 46 year marriage and spent quality time traveling, boating, fishing, and ran a successful BBQ restaurant in Coweta, Oklahoma. Alice would make sure she remembered everyone's birthday and would send gifts to her grandchildren each year. She and Herman hosted amazing Thanksgiving dinners annually for family and friends. Some years the guest total was upwards of 75, and she made everyone feel welcomed, loved, and appreciated.

Mrs. Alice Marie McHenry, "after Four-score and Four Years" peacefully transitioned to Eternal Rest on Sunday morning, June 18, 2023, with her loving family near her side in Redbird, Oklahoma.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Ulysses Baker and Carolyn (Yarbrough) Baker; one brother, Carlos Baker and one sister Laomey Surratt.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, Herman McHenry, Sr.; her two sons, Thomas Nickels of Redbird, OK, and Jasper "Jackie" Baker of Henderson, NV; her stepchildren, Noveta Whited, Rhoda McHenry, Herman McHenry, Jr., Denise Austin and Twala Neale; two sisters, Dorothy Davis of Frisco, TX, and Juanita Toombs of Kansas City, MO along with a host of grandchildren, nephews, and nieces.
