Obituary

It all began in Bristow, Oklahoma, when Mr. and Mrs. Jim Johnson were blessed with an infant daughter in the fall of 1923. Arriving on October 7th of that year, they named her Alma Jean. She was the third of twelve children in this family.

Alma Jean received her formal education at the Harlinville School and completed the eighth grade.

Later in life, she met and then married John A. Cherry and their union produced six children. She was a loving homemaker and helped to care for her family as an In-Home Nursing provider. She was also a member of the Order of Easter Star. Alma Jean was active in various community groups and will be missed by all who knew her.

She dozed into eternity on Thursday, November 9, 2006 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving and devoted husband, three brothers, a son and a daughter.

Remaining to wait on the Lord; a son, John A. Cherry, Jr., Tulsa, Oklahoma; three daughtres, Linda L. Cherry, Atlanta, Georgia, Helen Ellis and Sylvia Tharps, both of Tulsa, Oklahoma; two brothers, Robert Johnson and Willie Johnson, both of Austin, Texas; four sisters, Irene Love, Myrtle Montgomery, both of Wichita, Kansas, Lola Jean Hayes, St. Louis, Missouri and Shirley Hendrix, Los Angeles, California; 25 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; along with a caravan of other relatives and friends.

The Celebratory Worship Service of thanksgiving will be on Tuesday, November 14, 2006 at 1:00 P.M. in the New Life Baptist Church in Bristow. Pastor Eric D. Parker, the gracious Host Pastor and Reverend Henry T. Busby, Officiant.

Burial will follow in Harlinsville Cemetery.
