IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alma Jean
Davis
March 19, 1939 – November 4, 2023
This is My Journey
In Huttonville, Oklahoma, a small settlement in McIntosh County, March 19, 1939, was the date that DC and Georgia (Taylor) Cunningham announced the birth of their daughter. They named her Alma Jean Cunningham; she was one of the thirteen children born from this union.
Jean received her education from Huttonville public schools, but cut her education short to marry Franklin Davis, Sr., on February 5, 1955. She later received her GED and became a certified home health aide, CNA, and CMA while raising five children and being widowed at the age of 32. Alma Jean accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior and was baptized at New Hope Huttonville Baptist under the leadership of the late Reverend Dan Harris, where she remained a faithful member until her death. She worked for the Lord in various capacities within the church, including as church treasurer, and in the kitchen ministry. She enjoyed sewing, but cooking was her passion. She made a lifelong career of it as the head cook in the Eufaula public school system for 37 and a half years. She also worked at Paul's Chicken Corral and Papa Jay's restaurant.
Even after her retirement many years ago, she would still cook for anyone that asked her to, up to the point that she didn't have the energy to do so. She also did private care for 40 years and served the Eufaula community vigorously. She was a very firm person, but fair, and when she spoke, people listened. She always had a house full of children, her own as well as nieces, nephews, and other people's children. Her greatest sources of joy were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and she was well known to our neighborhood children. Somewhere along the way, she became known as "Mama Jean". She was loved by everyone that knew her, and her smile was contagious.
After 84 years with us, Alma Jean Davis took a peaceful flight with the angels to her final place of rest on Saturday, November 4, 2023, from Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Those who greeted her arrival in heaven were her parents, husband, six brothers, and three sisters.
She leaves to cherish her beautiful memory: her five children, two daughters and three sons, Valerie (Claude) Brazelton, Oscar Davis, Franklin (Rona) Davis, Jr., Kiven Davis, all of Eufaula, Oklahoma, and Charmane (Willie Jr.,) Davis Shorter; six grandchildren, Yarnell Brazelton of Cleveland, Ohio, Megan Goodwin of Houston, Texas, Darnell (Katrina) Brazelton of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Preston (Patrice) Davis of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Kristofer Goodwin of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Destini Davis of Tulsa, Oklahoma; seven beautiful great-grandchildren who calledher GiGi, Jonah Maldanado of Houston, Texas, Josiah and Isaiah Brazelton of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Elijah and Amir Davis of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Khloe of Seminole, Oklahoma, and Major Jackson of Tulsa, Oklahoma; two sisters, Francis Gilyard of Checotah, Oklahoma, and Charlesetta Warrior of Rentiesville, Oklahoma; one brother, Charles Cunningham of Kansas City, Kansas; one sister -in-law, Berlinda Cunningham of Eufaula, Oklahoma; special sister, Vera Jones; a special daughter, Corrina Hutton; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. She loved everyone so much and was very proud of the legacy that she was leaving behind.
