Mr. Alonzo Charles Grant, after 65 years, surrendered his soul on Monday, September 8, 2025 from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Born to Marquis Lafayette Grant II and Verta Lee (McDaniel) Grant on April 16th 1960. He was the 7th of nine children. He was the oldest twin by seven minutes

He joined and was baptized at Macedonia Baptist Church in his early years. He attended grade school at Dunbar and Tony Goetz Elementary Schools, Alice Robertson Jr. High School, and Muskogee High School, where he excelled in athletics (Rougher Standout), receiving a football scholarship to Langston University. After graduating Muskogee High School in 1978, Alonzo played football at Langston for a season.

Alonzo held a variety of jobs at various places including Life Guard, Head Start, and Brockway Glass.  Alonzo also worked as Food Service Manager for years at a resort in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Later, he became disabled, but enjoyed going on long walks and helping out family/friends whenever he could.

He was preceded in death by - his parents Marquis Lafayette II and Verta Lee Grant; his brothers: Paul, Marquis Lafayette III, and Duane; his daughter, Cassandra Derrick.

He leaves to celebrate his life as a loving family member: his son, Nigel & his grand-daughters, Stacey Derrick and Journee Billings (Muskogee, OK). His twin brother, Alphonso Grant of Tulsa, OK; brother, Terrell Grant of Claremore, OK. His three sisters – Laversia Murray and Freida Derrick of Muskogee, OK; Idella Teague of Tulsa, OK. Sister-in-law, Bettye Grant of Fort Lauderdale, FL. A special aunt, Mae Collins of Muskogee, OK. Long-time special friend of the family, Mrs. Josephine Brackeen of Muskogee, OK. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends to celebrate his home going.

The family would like to thank all those who said a kind word of condolence, sent their gifts, said a prayer, or expressed any acts of kindness during our time of loss.

Memorial Services for Mr. Alonzo Grant will be on Friday, September 19, 2025, 11 AM at The Martin Luther King Center in Muskogee, Oklahoma.
