Obituary

Alonzo Jordan, Sr. of Okmulgee, OK, closed his eyes in eternal rest, Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at St. Francis Hospital, at age 88.  Alonzo was born on November 14, 1928, the seventh child to Joe E. Jordan and Lizzie B. Jordan.  Lizzie was a well-beloved church matriarch who truly loved the Lord, followed, and taught His gospel.  Lizzie ensured Alonzo grew up knowing that same love and direction of God.

Alonzo met and befriended Earnestine early in life when she was nine years old.  After growing up together, they were married July 9, 1952 and being a loving couple sired and raised 12 children and six grandchildren.  They were blessed to celebrate their 65 th wedding anniversary just days prior to his passing.

He accepted Christ as his savior and joined the Evening Light Saints, Church of God in the early 1950's and considered it his church home until his death.   He was devoted to his church and was always available to lend a helping hand in whatever manner or need necessary.

Alonzo dutifully worked, enjoyed and retired from a progressive career in construction of over 30 years.  He was a lifetime member of Laborers National Union of North America and received the 50 Year plaque.  He used his skills as a builder, gardener, in landscaping and repair abilities to help with home and building maintenance for his family and friends.  Alonzo was always willing to lend a helping hand with no strings attached.  Alonzo loved a day at the local fishing hole, digging in the dirt, and watching his efforts blossom into flowers of myriads of beautiful colors or becoming the favorite vegetables that his family enjoyed.  In his latter retirement days, he could often be found watching cowboy westerns, listening to country music, and landscaping.

Alonzo proudly served his country from 1951 to 1957 during the Korean war.  After serving three tours, wherein he received numerous awards and medals of achievement, he received an honorable discharge from the United States Army.  He joined the American Legion and was a member until his passing.

Alonzo was preceded in death by two children, Alonzo Jordan, Jr., Okmulgee, OK and Pamela Jordan, Okmulgee, OK; and three brothers, George Jordan, Clinton, OK, and Charles Jordan and Nathaniel Jordan, Okmulgee, OK.

He leaves behind to mourn and cherish his memory; his wife, Earnestine Clovice Jordan, Okmulgee, OK, his children, their spouses and grandchildren:  Rosie & Lester Ligons, Henryetta, OK, Pastors Earnest & Pat Jordan, Morris, OK, Delores Sims, Okmulgee, OK, Pastor Cleophas & Sharon Jordan, Tulsa, OK, Hobart Jordan, Okmulgee, OK, Albert & Lori Jordan, Tulsa, OK, Gerald & Te'Ann Jordan, Stockton, CA, Jimmy Jordan, Springfield, MO, Michael Jordan, Stockton, CA, Lisa Jordan, Houston, TX, and two adopted children, Shamone & Matilda Jordan, Coweta, OK and Brandyn Harris, Tulsa, OK.   His legacy of descendants includes 40 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren.
