IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alta Marverine
Givens
September 21, 1930 – December 29, 2020
Alta Marverine Givens, one of six children, the child of Clarence S. and Eula Alva Givens was
born on September 21, 1930, in Purcell, Oklahoma. She attended public schools and graduated
from Manual Training High School in Muskogee, Oklahoma in 1948. She accepted Christ as her
personal savior and became a member of the Church of Christ in Muskogee, Oklahoma at an
early age, and for many years was a faithful servant.
She later moved to Chicago, Illinois to seek employment and lived there for several years,
later with her younger sister, Nora Jean Givens. Years later she returned home to attend and
graduate from Northeastern University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. She worked diligently as
a schoolteacher on the Elementary level and later counseling and teaching at Bacon College.
Throughout her life, she engaged with people in a variety of ways, whether at work, in the
community, or at family gatherings. In those moments she made lifelong relationships and left
heartfelt impressions with everyone she met, especially children who she taught reading, writing
and piano lessons.
Perhaps you may have known her as a Sorority Sister, Parent Advocate,
Elderly Caretaker, a Valued Friend, Family confidant, a Concerned Neighbor or an "Amazing
Cook", (don't forget the homemade chocolate fudge and cookies at Christmas or Halloween).
She didn't have children of her own however, she had a host of nieces and nephews that often
considered her Mom..
Alta Marverine Givens transitioned from this life, to life eternal on December 29, 2020.
Believing that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Blessings upon blessings
will be stored among all of us because she now is our official Guardian Angel. She was 90 years
old when she passed.
She leaves to cherish her memory; Orville Givens, brother in California
and Nora Jean Givens, sister in Oklahoma, loving nieces and nephews all over the U.S, loving
cousins and acquaintances. May the sadness which we are all experiencing be comforted by great
memories of a treasured life.
