Obituary

On July 2, 1948, a beautiful baby girl was born to Annie Ruth Cole Smith and the late Bennie Jack Smith, Sr., in Eufaula, Oklahoma. She was given the name Anita Smith.


Anita was christened as a baby at Jackson Chapel C.M.E. Church in Eufaula. Then, at an early age, she joined Jackson Chapel on her own. After moving to Edmond, Oklahoma, she joined St. James A.M.E. Church of Arcadia, Oklahoma.


She attended Booker T. Washington Elementary School and graduated from Eufaula High School in 1966. Shortly after graduating, she moved to Omaha, Nebraska, where she worked at Western Electric until 1973. Anita moved back to Oklahoma, making Edmond her home while continuing to work for Western Electric, which is now Lucent Technology until 2004. She attended Metro Tech and took Culinary Arts, and had planned to open a restaurant. While attending school, she was chosen for the cover of the Metro Tech Schedule book for five years. Anita loved to trave and cook for her family. She helped with her nieces and nephews who loved her as a mother. She was also a former member of the Lillie of the Valley O.E.S. Chapter #7.


Anita met her husband, Theodore Shores while working at the A.P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City and they united in marriage on July 22, 1985. She has a step-son and three step-daughters from this union.


On December 6, 2007, God called Anita home. She was preceded in death by her father, Bennie Jack Smith, Sr., and two brothers, Jerry Dale and Tommy Dale Smith, three nephews, Michael Dewayne Ford, Jerald Lamont Ford and Tristian Jaleel Pierce as well as her paternal and maternal grandparents.


She leaves in God's care to cherish her memories; her devoted and loving husband, Theodore "Ted" Shores, of the home in Edmond, Oklahoma; her mother, Annie R. Smith, Eufaula, Oklahoma; her step-daughters, Terrie Shores and Tatiana Shores, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Tralonda & husband Larry Stewart, Humble, Texas; her step-son, Greg Colbert, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; seven brothers and three sisters, Bennie Jack Smith, Jr., San Antonio, Texas, Rodney, Glenn and Ervin Smith and Jerry West, Eufaula, Oklahoma, Jimmy, Edmond, Oklahoma, Michael, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Una Smith, Eufaula, Oklahoma, Gloria Brewer, Checotah, Oklahoma and Toni Slayden, Del City, Oklahoma; a very special and devoted friend who she thought of as a sister, Effie Owens; her look alike niece, Sakinah; her God-children, Marcie Cheatam Frazier, Las Vegas, Nevada and Tamillia Brown, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; along with a caravan of other relatives and friends.rs. Anita Shores, beloved wife of Ted, after 59 years, dozed into the tranquil peace of eternal slumber on Thursday morning, December 6, 2007 from Edmond, Oklahoma.

Service of Memory for Mrs. Shores will be on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. in the Lighthouse Christian Center in Eufaula, Oklahoma. Rev. Samuel Harper, Pastor of Sulphur Springs Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Eufaula. You may visit Mrs. Shores on Friday from 4 PM to 7 PM at Sulphur Springs Baptist Church in Eufaula.
