Mrs. Anna Lorene Melton, in her 79th season, went to be with the Lord on Monday morning, October 16, 2006 from Broadway Manor Nursing home in Muskogee.

Affectionately referred to as Lorene by family and friends, she was born in Webbers Falls, Oklahoma on December 6, 1926, the daughter of Ernest "Heck" and Elsie [Morse] Fletcher. She was the oldest of 6 children.

She attended school at Webbers Falls and Buckhorn. Lorene spent 20 years in Arkansas before returning to Oklahoma for the last 20+ years. She was married to the late Virgil Lee Melton, who passed away in 1983.

Lorene loved cooking, canning, gardening and especially spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was of the Baptist Faith and will be missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 3 sons, Tommy Joe, Roger Gale and Darrell Lee Melton, a brother, Dave Fletcher and a sister, Audrey Huggins, along with 3 great-grandchildren.

She leaves to lament her passing; her sons, Walter Fletcher, Muskogee, Oklahoma and Darwin Melton, Tahlequah, Oklahoma; her daughters, Ruth Caroline Jenkins, Wagoner, Oklahoma and Martha Susan Brown, Muskogee, Oklahoma; a brother, Joe Fletcher [Lisa], Muskogee, Oklahoma; her sister, Margaret [Bob] Shelby, Webbers Falls, Oklahoma and Laverne [Gordon] Thomas, Coweta, Oklahoma; 15 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

The service of memory for Lorene will be held on Thursday, October 19, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of Remembrance. Pastor John Donnelly, Youth Pastor at the Wagoner Church of God will officiate. A graveside ceremony and burial will follow at 3:00 P.M. in the Locke Cemetery at Mountainburg, Arkansas on Thursday.

Friends may visit Lorene, as she slumbers at the funeral home on Wednesday from 12 Noon until 6 PM.
