Obituary

Arnetta Eagle Davis, the oldest living Warrior descendant of Doctor Gouge Warrior and Sally Gouge Warrior, pioneers of Warrior Community "slipped gracefully into the corridors of Heaven" on May 22, 2016 from her home in the Warrior Community.

Arnetta was born September 23, 1927 in Warrior Community, west of Checotah, Oklahoma to Earnest Eagle and Iserene Lee Smith. Arnetta was raised and nurtured in the home of her mother and step-father, Robert (Bobby) Smith and grandmother Dora Warrior. She spent quality time with her grandmother, who became one of the most inspirational and influential people in her life.

Arnetta was affectionately called 'MuDear" by her children. Her favorite color was purple. This color truly does represent her unique personality for those who knew her well. She was a lady of dignity, wisdom and peace. Her love for family was genuine and unconditional.

Arnetta received her formal education from Warrior Community School. After leaving Warrior, she attended Historic Rentiesville High School and was proud to be one of two graduates in the class of 1947.

At an early age, Christianity was instilled in her at home and church. She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior and joined Mt. Olive Star Baptist Church. Arnetta started receiving spiritual guidance under the leadership of her great grandfather, Rev. William Warrior. Later in life, she found this spiritual guidance to be a strong foundation and pillar of support to face many challenges in life.

Arnetta's mission work began during early childhood. She would often walk or ride in a wagon with her grandmother through the community, praying and caring for the sick. This early experience as a missionary sparked her to later become the mission president of her church. She served faithfully in this capacity for many years. Arnetta was the oldest and longest active member of Mt. Olive Star Baptist Church.

Shortly after graduating from high school, Arnetta and Jiles Burkhalter shared the arrival of their oldest daughter Charlszetta and son Dwight. . In the early fifties, she met Clifford Ray Davis and together they were blessed to have seven children. Arnetta found exhilaration in spending time with her children and doing whatever it took to make them happy.

Arnetta found family gatherings delightful. She loved to cook and share a good meal with family and friends. She will be remembered for her delicious peach cobbler and homemade biscuits.

Being a hard worker, she had the opportunity to work a variety of jobs doing her lifetime. In the early seventies, she joined her cousin, former teacher and Superintendent, Dr. Eddie Warrior and the Taft Public School System. Arnett worked diligently for many years as a teacher's assistant until she retired.

Her devotion to family and her firm belief in Jesus supported her throughout her life, as well as during her illness and ultimately gave her peace. All medical channels were exhausted to sustain her life, but the appointed time came when she had to exchange mortality for immortality.

Arnett fulfilled her life on this earth. Her total life span, 88 years, 8 months and 22 days. She will be dearly missed by her loved ones, who celebrate the fact that she is at perfect peace with her heavenly father. Praise God for a beautiful life lived.
