On May 1, 1925, in Frogville, Oklahoma, Daniel and Lillie Lacefield Jordan were blessed with their newest edition. It was their seventh of fifteen children.
Named Arthur Lee, he came to Christ at an early age. He began preaching at age 17. He was affiliated with the Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Elder Wylee Gardner, and in 2009 became a member of the Oak Hill Baptist Church where Rev. A.C. Jordan, Sr. served as pastor.
Arthur Lee Jordan, Sr. worked as a butcher for many years at O'Brien's Meat Packing Company, Bauer and Sons, and Wickham's of Sapulpa. He also worked for Phil's Diner for 15 years. He retired from his Earthly Labor in 1993. Arthur had an impeccable work ethic. He believed in providing for family. His famous words: "YOU DON'T WORK, YOU DON'T EAT!"
Arthur was an avid family gardener and was truly an outdoors person. He was always admiring God's handy work, such as the wildflowers that grew in his neighborhood and the Crepe Myrtle trees that he saw while riding through town. Painting designs on his clothing, hats and shoes was his passion. Playing the guitar was his favorite pastime, and witnessing God's word to others was near and dear to his heart. He always asked those he met if they knew the Lord. If the reply was no, then he would introduce them to Him.
He met and married Doris Ethel Grundy. To this union five children were born. In 1963, he married Elsia Louise Simmons. He adopted Elsia's six year old daughter Gloria, and raised her as his own. Thirteen years later, one child, Anjeanetta was born to the union.
He finished his course retiring from his Earthly Works on January 29, 2011 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Waiting to welcome him home are his parents, his loving and devoted wife, four sisters, eight brothers, one son, and two grandchildren.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his children Gloria Jones, (Charles) Anjeanetta Clemons (William), both of Tulsa, OK., Reva Brown, Missouri, Arthur Lee, Jr., Charlotte Hailey, Renell Walker, all of Tulsa, OK., one brother, Jesse B. Jordan (Lillie) and one sister, Reatha Mae Roberts, all of San Diego, CA., one brother in-law, Earl Simmons, Los Angeles, CA., fifteen grandchildren, along with a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services for Mr. Jordan will be Friday February 4, 2010 inside our All Faiths Chapel in Tulsa.
