Mr. Arvesta Mitchell, Sr., after 90 years, was beckoned by the Lord on Tuesday evening, August 5, 2014 from Muskogee. Oklahoma
Mr. Mitchell was born in Okmulgee on October 5, 1923, the son of Bell and Anna [Jackson] Mitchell. He attended Okmulgee Public Schools and married the former Mary Elizabeth Freeman on June 7, 1943 and their marriage was blessed with four children.
Arvesta served his Country honorably in the United States Army during World War II. After returning home, he attended Oklahoma State Tech, where he finished in Shoe Repair. He also worked in the Construction Industry in Tulsa and later managed his own Lawn Care Service across Okmulgee.
Those that are left to reflect upon precious memories; his wife, Mary, of the home in Okmulgee; 4 children, Arvesta Jr., Troy, Larry and Glinda; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Avadna Mitchell, Mable Foster and Emma J. Montgomery, all of Okmulgee; a caravan of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The Final Hour with Mr. Mitchell will be shared on Monday, August 9, 2014 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Peace. Reverend David Burks, Pastor of Mount Zion Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will follow at 1:00 PM in the National Cemetery at Fort Gibson, Oklahoma.
