Arzoria Steele was born March 12, 1933 to Elbert and Henryetta (Shoate) Steele in Fort Coffee, Oklahoma, the youngest of 11 children.
She united with Mt. Triumph Baptist Church at an early age and later moved her membership to Macedonia Church of God where she was active as an usher and involved with the mission until her health failed.
She worked tirelessly in the Fort Coffee Community, and said her goal was to bring young people back to the community. Arzoria was a Community VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) worker for 5 years and was employed at Whirlpool Corporation for 23 years before she retired. She was one of the organizers of the Fort Coffee Senior Citizens, which continues to thrive today. During the early seventies, she served as part of the Fort Coffee Community group that organized to bring about racial equality for the black athletes at Spiro Public School, obtained signatures and gave fundraisers to help with the incorporation of Fort Coffee and former president of the cemetery committee.
After 86 years, Arzoria Steele "closed her eyes on this side, but woke up in Glory" on Tuesday afternoon, July 30, 2019 from Fort Smith, Arkansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son Orelious Steele, her 10 siblings Elmo Steele, Althea May Steele, Syrenzo Steele, Olgia (Steele) Lewis, Wesley Steele, Levi Steele, Levicia (Steele) Derricott-Walker, Corine (Steele) Mapp, Ophelia (Steele) Humphrey, and Dorsey Steele.
She leaves to cherish her memory Campanella(Helen) Steele, Charlie(Deloris) Steele, Carolyn Walker, Joanna (Donald) Bunch, two grandchildren that she raised Miriah Steele, Trey Orelious Steele and a host of grandchildren, great-grands, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
The Celebratory Service honoring her life will commence on Monday morning, August 5, 2019 at 11:00 AM in the Victory Worship Center, Spiro, Oklahoma. Pastor Brian Fouts is the gracious host, Pastor Tashala Devrow, Officiating and Reverend Dennis Ruff, her Pastor, will deliver the Eulogy.
Burial will follow the service in the Mount Triumph Cemetery in Fort Coffee, Oklahoma.
You may visit Mother Steele, as she slumbers in sweet repose at the Church on Monday morning, from 9:45 AM until 10:45 AM. There will be viewing at the conclusion of the service as well.
Flowers may be delivered to the Church on Monday morning before 10:00 AM.
