IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Augustine
Johnson
July 6, 1936 – February 23, 2025
On July 6, 1936 in Wilton, Arkansas, Prentiss Davis and Lucy Lyons became the proud parents of a little baby girl. They named her Augustine.
Augustine's formative years were spent on the family farm, where she cultivated a strong work ethic, a spirit of sacrifice, and a deep appreciation for the foundations of home. These early lessons would shape her character and guide her throughout her life. Driven by a desire for a professional career, Augustine relocated to Tulsa, Oklahoma, and pursued training as a nurse's aide at
St. John's Hospital. She took immense pride in her work, providing compassionate care to those in need. This calling was a reflection of her innate nature as a caregiver and encourager.
Her dedication to nurturing extended beyond her patients. She found the most enjoyment and fulfillment in the accomplishments of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. She was the epitome of a supportive grand-mother, attending their athletic events and games cheering them on. Her home was a haven of warmth and delicious aromas, where gatherings were filled with the best home cooked meals. Above all, she was the best encourager, always offering words of wisdom and support to her loved ones. Her thoughtful
gestures, from handwritten cards and letters to commemorate milestones to her uniquely formatted, yet heartfelt, encouraging emails delivered entirely in the subject line demonstrated her unwavering support.
After several years of dedicated service as a nurse's aide, Augustine made a selfless decision to prioritize her family. She transitioned to a role at Marge McNearney's Children's Wear today known as the Children's Collection in Utica Square, ultimately becoming the Shipping and Receiving Manager. This career move allowed her to be more present in her children's lives, embodying her remarkable capacity for sacrifice and adaptability. Moreover, her grandchildren became the beneficiaries of her keen eye for quality children's apparel.
Augustine's passions extended beyond her family. She enjoyed watching athletic events, engaging in lively debates about the political landscape, and relaxing with her favorite shows, NCIS and Judge Judy. She found joy in researching home remedies and playing games on her iPad. She also enjoyed filling her house with music. Her go to for rhythm and blues was always Al Green and her favorite gospel artist was Mahalia Jackson.
Most importantly, she encouraged her children and grandchildren to reach their full potential. Some of her favorite names from family, friends and grandchildren were "Granda," "Stine," "Sharky," "Tee," and "Granda-Banda." Augustine's spiritual life was strong. Her Bible was always near and she devoted herself to reading and applying the word in every situation. Even when she could not eventually attend church physically, she kept God close and in her heart. One of her favorite scriptures she lived by is Proverbs 4:12: "As you go, step by step I will open up the way before you." Augustine would always paraphrase this scripture in the old Christian tradition – "If you take one step, God will take two." She walked by faith her entire life and never wavered in her service to the Lord.
Her life was a testament to her unwavering commitment to family, her tireless work ethic, and her generous spirit. She leaves behind a legacy of love, encouragement, and the enduring impact of a life well-lived.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her daughters, Loretta Howard - Tulsa OK, and Wanda Randle - Tulsa OK; her son, Earl Johnson (Kimberly Johnson) - Broken Arrow, OK; her brother, Rufus Charles - Inglewood, CA; her sister, Carleen Bowles – Woodland Hills, CA; grandchildren, Marcus Howard (Angela Howard) - Broken Arrow, OK; Demarco Ford – Atlanta, GA; Keyona Goodrum (Michael Goodrum) - Tulsa, OK; Courtney Buchanan (Naya Buchanan) - Tulsa, OK; Derrick Howard – Tulsa, OK, Michelle Ford - Tulsa, OK; Ashley Oletu (Vincent Oletu) – Castle Pines, CO.
