Augustus D. "Pick" Hunigan's Obituary

Augustus DeWayne Hunigan, better known to family and friends as "Pick", left this life on Sunday morning, July 10, 2005 from Muskogee, Oklahoma.

Born from the parentage of L. C. Hunigan and Claudia Mae Brown in Fort Coffee, Oklahoma, "Pick" arrived on the Tenth day of November, in the year of Our Lord, Nineteen Hundred Forty Five.

At an impressionable age, "Pick's" Grandmother, Annie Brown, introduced him to Christianity in the home church, where he was baptized at an early age. Later in life, he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior.

He moved with his family to Muskogee, Oklahoma, where he grew up and received his education. He moved to Los Angeles, California for a short time before returning to Muskogee to be with his family and friends. He became a certified nurse aid and therapy assistant in local nursing homes, ultimately rendering service to Broadway Manor Nursing home. It was at Broadway Manor where he became a beloved employee, friend and co-worker. The Staff there and the patients were his second family.

Mr. Hunigan leaves to celebrate his homegoing; a loving brother, Joseph [Barbara] Jones, Kansas City, Missouri; an aunt, Lula Shoate, Fort Coffee, Oklahoma; a second mother and cousin, Jessie Bell Chatman; Tracy Reynolds and her brothers, who took the roll of father to his sister's children; two God-sons, Robert Wartson, Tulsa, Oklahoma and Sam Reed, Muskogee, Oklahoma; along with a host of other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

And then there is Darren Reed! What manor of man is he? I will tell you. John 13: 34, 35 - A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another. Love suffereth long and is kind. And now abideth faith, hope, love (charity), these three but the greatest of these is Love. Darren showed that love to "Pick" and this community. Thank you, Darren: from Joe and Barbara Jones.

The celebration Tribute will be on Saturday, July 16, 2005 at 2:00 P.M. in the Greater Canaan Baptist Church, 2331 Euclid Avenue. Pastor W. L. Brown, Jr., will officiate. Burial will follow in Booker T. Washington Cemetery. You may visit "Pick" on Friday from 12 Noon until 7 PM at the funeral home.
