On Sunday night, April 17, 2016 Barbara Jean Barnett-Chiles, lovingly known as "Bobbie" by her family and friends walked thru the shadows of death and is now being comforted by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Barbara was born on August 19, 1936 in McIntosh County, Oklahoma to Daily and Minnie (Bruner) Barnett, who preceded her in death. She was raised in Hoffman, OK and moved to Okmulgee, OK in 1960. She attended Brown Chapel grade school on Tiger Mountain through 8th grade and went on to high school in Grayson, Oklahoma.
Accepting Christ as a teenager, Barbara united with and was baptized at Pilgrim Baptist Church in Hoffman, OK under the pastorate of the late Rev. Lee Massey. She renewed her faith in Christ at St. Mary's Christian Center under the late Rev. Lyons Manuel. She was most recently a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Haskell, OK.
Barbara is remembered for her tireless work ethic, many times holding multiple jobs to raise her family without a complaint. Well known for her "soul food" cooking, throughout the years she was employed as a cook at several restaurants in Okmulgee and at one time owned and operated her own restaurant. During her last years of employment, Barbara worked as a home health care aide with Med-Corp Plus, Olsten (Gentiva) Health Services and Girling Health Care, retiring in 2008. She shared her gifts with the patients she encountered and they received her loving care just like her family always did.
Surviving to mourn and to thank God for the memories of her life are her four sons: Daniel "Tony" Barnett of Okmulgee OK, Ronald Payne (Denese) of Bay City TX, Gerald Payne (Phyllis) and Carl Morgan (Bridgett) of Tulsa OK; three daughters: Brenda Taylor (Stan) of Denver CO, Bridgett Taylor (Keith) and Karen Harrison (Keith) of Tulsa OK; two brothers: Billie Barnett (Stella) and Earl Barnett of Okmulgee OK; fourteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Her brother Charles Barnett and sister Louise McGlothern preceded her in death.
The Hour of Remembrance will commence on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. in the most Holy sanctuary of the Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 1500 North Miami Avenue in Okmulgee. Burial will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Okmulgee.
