Obituary

Barbara Ann Cohen, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, transitioned to her heavenly home on May 5, 2026. She completed her earthly journey surrounded by cherished memories, lifelong friendships, and the love of family.

Barbara was born in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, where she was raised alongside her close family members and her beloved siblings: Junior, Michael, Patricia, Rachel, Henry, Faye, Clarence, and James. Her roots in Okmulgee shaped the humble, caring, and compassionate woman she became.

Barbara attended Bannaker, Dunbar Elementary, and later graduated from Dunbar High School. She dedicated 44 years of faithful service as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) at Miami Terrace and Rebo Manor before retiring.

In her younger years, Barbara married Carlos Baker of Bakersfield, California, for a short time. She later met and married James Hoggans in 1970, and to this union three children were born: Darren, Angela, and James. The couple divorced in 1979. In 1982, Barbara married Booker T. Cohen, who preceded her in death in 1990.

Barbara accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior while raising her children and became a born-again Christian at Mt. Zion under the leadership of Pastor David Burks. Her faith remained an important part of her life.

Barbara will be lovingly remembered for her warm embrace, unwavering love for family, outgoing personality, and steadfast presence in the lives of those she touched. She possessed a kind and gentle spirit that left lasting impressions everywhere she went. Barbara never met a stranger and made friends wherever life carried her. She also shared her love through her wonderful cooking, which brought joy and comfort to many.

She leaves to cherish her memory her sister, Patricia Mason of Okmulgee, Oklahoma; her brother, Ozzie Noble Jr. of Houston, Texas; her children, Darren Baker of North Las Vegas, Nevada, Angela Hoggans of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and James Baker of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends throughout the world.

Barbara’s love, kindness, and beautiful spirit will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

A Service of Memory for Mrs. Cohen will commence on Saturday, May 16, 2026 at the 2:00PM in the most holy sanctuary of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where Pastor D. Currington is the gracious host and Pastor Oscar Higgs will preside.
