Obituary

Mrs. Barbara Ann Grey, in her 90th season of life, was "beckoned by the Master" on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 from Okmulgee.

She was born in Okmulgee on November 16, 1922, the second child and only daughter born from the loving union of Johnnie and Viola [Gates] Davis.

Barbara attended school in Okmulgee, later moving to Wichita, Kansas, where she graduated from North High School. She returned to Oklahoma, where she attended Langston University and received her Bachelor of Education Degree.

Her first job was as a proof reader for a hymnal publishing company in Nashville, Tennessee. She then taught school in Grayson, Oklahoma, Uganda Martyrs Catholic School and several grade schools in Okmulgee. Everyone who met Barbara commented on her quiet manner and gentle ways. She retired from teaching in 1984 after 19 years as a dedicated, professional educator.

It was shortly after returning to Oklahoma from Nashville, when Barbara met a distinguished gentleman, Raymon Grey, Sr. They were united in Holy Matrimony and became the proud parents of Raymond, Jr., and Carole.

Mrs. Grey was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, Raymond Grey, Sr., her parents, brothers and a grandchild.

She leaves to honor her legacy and memory; her son, Raymond Grey, Jr.; her daughter, Carole [Herman] Ray; a sister-in-law, Clairetha Davis, Los Angeles, California; a brother-in-law, Irving [Carmela] Gray, El Paso, Texas; her grandchildren, Gina Gray, Shelley [Chad] Collins, Lindsey Gray, Kyle [Magaly] Ray and Brandon Gray; her great-grandchildren, Miles Fikes, Sydney Fikes, Jeremy Gray, Rayln Collins, Braylon Gray and Haley Collins; her nieces, Barbara Hopkins and Brenda Craddock; a nephew, Ronald Davis, Sr.; along with numerous great-nieces and great-nephews, and friends.

The Hour of Remembrance will be shared on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. in the most Holy sanctuary of the First Baptist Church-Central. Reverend P. W. Jackson, Sr., Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Okmulgee City Cemetery.

You may visit Mrs. Grey, as she slumbers in sweet repose at the funeral home in Okmulgee on Monday from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM. The Family will be present.
