Mr. Ben Butler, a resident of Naperville, Illinois, "left suddenly" on Friday, June 17, 2011.
He was born July 22, 1952 in Hugo, Oklahoma to Ben Butler and Evelyn H. Butler. He was their eighth and last child.
Ben was a high achiever and honor student in high school, an All-State football player and played saxophone in the award winning jazz band. He received his undergraduate and master's degree from Southeastern Oklahoma State University. While in college, he became a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Ben was a dissertation candidate for a Ph.D. at Northern Illinois University. He retired as a Project/Production Marketing Manager for Lucent Technologies now known as ALCATEL-Lucent.
Those remaining to cherish shared memories of Ben are: his loving wife of 35 years, Delores (Sally) Butler, his son whom he loved dearly, Jonathan Butler, siblings: Mildred (Edward) Coursey, Poplar Bluff, Mo, Stanley Butler, Tulsa, OK, Donald (Delois) Butler, Tulsa, OK, and cousins raised by his parents, Clentis Weatherall, Texas, Willie Weatherall, Iowa, and Greta (Joe) Evans, Hugo, OK, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Ben was a devoted and loving father and husband. He was a mild-mannered and caring man. He was a true friend to all who knew him. He volunteered his time to those who were unemployed and underemployed in Naperville, IL. He also volunteered his time to high school students by tutoring them in math, helping them to reach their goal for graduation.
He never spoke a negative word of anyone, ever. God put his arms around Ben on June 18, 2011, and God whispered in his ear to come home. We now bow in humble submission with humility to God's Plan, as we commend him to God's Plan, as we commend him to God's special care. God broke our hearts to prove to us that he only takes the best….So when tomorrow starts without Ben, don't think we are apart and every time you think of him, he's right here in our hearts. Ben accepted God at an early age at Hugo Chapel Baptist Church. He believed in all that God promised. Ben will be missed, but never forgotten. We loved him, but God loved him best.
