The oldest daughter of 13 children born from the union of Lorene Spivey and David Keel arrived on November 9, 1941. They named her Bernice Ann.
She grew up in the Hoffman area and attended school in Grayson, Oklahoma. Bernice began her journey with the Lord at an early age. She not only served the Lord, but she served others in many different areas.
Bernice met a gentleman, Samuel Broadus, Sr., and after falling in love, they were marred on August 30, 1962. She loved her family and spending time around family. She was always surrounded by family, friends and many loved ones. she never met a stranger. It was always "dinner" at her house. She worked in the Food Service industry as a food service technician for over 30 years.
Sister Broadus famous words of wisdom was to love one another because you don't know what tomorrow will bring, and of course, "God don't like ugly!"
After 67 beautiful years, Bernice Ann Broadus, with her loving family near her side, "Looked to the Hills, from which cometh thy help" on Saturday evening, March 28, 2009 from Saint John Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was met at "the Golden Gate" by her parents, her husband, two brothers, a sister and a son.
Those that wait on the Lord; her children, Milicent [Tommy] Keel-Ramono, Connecticut, Juanita [Nathan] Keel-Wilson, Okmulgee, Oklahoma, Iris [Darnell] Rene Dodd, Dallas, Texas, Carolyn [Wesley] Holmes, Muskogee, Oklahoma, Samuel [Sharon] Broadus, Jr., Yukon, Oklahoma, and Michelle "Baby Girl" DeRoin [Farrell], Tulsa, Oklahoma; along with a caravan of other relatives and many friends.
The Celebration will be on Saturday, April 4, 2009 at 2 PM in the Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Rev. Gregory Richardson, Pastor of Conversion Ministry will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hawkins Cemetery at Hoffman, Oklahoma.
