Obituary

A beautiful, baby girl was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma on January 4, 1937 from the loving union of Haywood and Valee Booker.  She was given the name Bertha Booker.  Bertha grew up in Muskogee, where she attended Muskogee Public Schools, graduating from the Historic Manual Training High School with the Class of 1957.  She furthered her education by attending nursing school at Bacone College.

Bertha originally began working at the Muskogee General Hospital as a nurse aid on the surgical floor in 1960.  She then became licensed as an L.P.N. in 1980 and retired after 55 years of faithful service to the Muskogee Community.

She met a gentleman, Lemond Horn and after falling in love, they were united in Holy matrimony.  Together, they raised their family in Muskogee.  They were a close knit family, spending quality time and vacationing as a family each summer.

Bertha was a long time member of Hope Lutheran Church before the Church merged with First Lutheran Church.  Her home on the south side was a loving and safe home for her children and family.   She enjoyed fishing, family time, socializing and traveling.

After 79 years with us, Bertha Horn transitioned from Earth to Glory on Saturday morning, August 19, 2017 from Muskogee.  She was preceded in this journey from earth by her husband, Lemond Horn and her sons, Keith Simmons and Michael Horn.

Those she leaves to cherish her memory;  her sons, Tony Hors, Sr. [Beulah Joyce], Muskogee, Oklahoma and Shawn Horn [Jewell], Atlanta, Georgia;  her step-daughter, Karen Horn Nelson, St. Paul, Minnesota;  her grandchildren, Antonio Horn, Janelle Horn, Daniell Horn, Andrew Horn, and Tony Horn, Jr.;  her great-grandchildren, Aniyah Horn and Justice Horn;  her niece, Debra Simmons Hitchye; and a host of other relatives and friends.

The Service of Memory for Mrs. Horn will be on Thursday, August 24, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. in the First Lutheran Church,  428 East Broadway.  Pastor Wayne Schuett will officiate.  Entombment will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery.

You may visit Mrs. Horn, as she slumbers in sweet repose at the funeral home on Wednesday, from 12 Noon until 6:00 PM.
