A loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Bertha M. Says arrived in Okmulgee, Oklahoma on August 1, 1938 from the union of Dallas James and Anna Bell [Reagor] Murdock, Sr.
She grew up in Okmulgee, where she attended Okmulgee Public Schools, graduating from the Historic Dunbar High School with the Class of 1957. Bertha furthered her education, earning an Associates Degree from Oklahoma State University-Okmulgee in Secretarial Science and a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Education from Langston University. She became a proud Soror of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., in the Lambda Alpha Chapter.
Bertha was married to Joe Lee Syas, Sr. She worked many different vocations; she was Secretary for Okmulgee Land and Title Office, Tulsa University, the Health Science Center in Dallas, Texas and American Window [ASG] Industries. She also worked at Conley Corporation in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and was a regular Substitute Teacher for Okmulgee Public Schools, where she was affectionately called "Mother-Gran" by students and teachers.
Sister Bertha "closed her eyes on earth, but woke up in Glory" on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 from Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Eva Regor and three brothers, Dallas "Boots" Murdock, Sr., Alfred Murdock and Rayford "Foxy" Reagor.
Her loving family that she leaves in God's care; her children, Willard Lance [Norma] Murdock, Balch Springs, Texas, Joe Lee Syas, Jr., Houston, Texas and Robin Syas Little, Okmulgee, Oklahoma; her grandchildren, Stephanie Rene [Roderick] Lofton, Marcel [Blanche] Andrews, Shirlanna Little, Joe Lee Syas, III, KenRich Little, Skyler Little, Tiffany Murdock, Kamecha Syas, Jarvis Syas, Breona Syas, Daniel Syas, and baby Syas due in June; great-grandchildren, Mia Johnson, Kendall Lofton, Cameron Andrews, Tyson Andrews, Jeordon Andrews and Aladdon Andrews; her sisters, Dorothy Murdock Shepherd and Lois Murdock Craig, both of Okmulgee and Mattie Lee Murdock Ellis, Bakersfield, California; her brothers, Richard [Sheila] Murdock, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Johnny Murdock, Bakersfield, California; along with a host of other relatives and friends.
The Hour of Tribute will commence on Friday, May 11, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. in the Eastside Baptist Church. Reverend Marcus Jeffrey, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Okmulgee Cemetery.
You may visist Mrs. Syas, as she slumbers in sweet repose at the funeral home on Thursday from 10 AM until 6 PM.
