Obituary
It all began in the community of Pierce, Oklahoma, when on May 21, 1942, a baby girl arrived from the loving union of Green and Lottie [Brunson] Palmer. They named her Betty Jean and she was the seventh of eight children in this family.
Betty Jean attended school in the Pierce area, where she attended Warrior Elementary school and graduated from Pierce High School in 1961. She furthered her education, earning an Associates Degree from Connors State College.
Soon thereafter, a handsome gentleman entered the picture. After igniting a spark in each others eye, everlasting love fell upon them and she married the love of her life, William Gano Dan Jr. Their love was blessed with three children.
Betty Jean accepted Christ into her life at a very early age. She remained a faithful Christian throughout her life and was a member of the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Checotah. She would do anything for her family. She was a devoted wife and mother and loved fishing, sports and having talks with her grandchildren.
She retired from Ft. Howard Paper Company in Muskogee, where she worked as a machine operator.
After 66 seasons with us, Betty Jean Dan transitioned from life to everlasting, with her loving family at her side to witness, on Monday evening, December 22, 2008 from the comfort of her home. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters.
She leaves in God's care; her husband, William "Gano" Dan, Jr., of the home in Checotah; a son, Derrick Dan, Okmulgee, Oklahoma; her daughters, Jean & Dwayne Motte, Okmulgee, Oklahoma and Andrea "Aungie" Dan, Checotah, Oklahoma; twelve grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Eddie Palmer, Checotah, Oklahoma and Percy Palmer, Detroit, Michigan; three sisters, Ruby May, Lilian Whitfield and Evelean Smith, all of Checotah, Oklahoma; and a caravan of other relatives and friends.
The Hour of Farewell will be on Friday, December 26, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. in the First Baptist Church of Checotah. Reverend Maddox, Pastor of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church of Checotah, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Warrior Cemetery.
