In Bristow, Oklahoma, a daughter was born to Irene James and Alfred Green on October 13, 1944. They named her Betty Jean and she was the last of her siblings.
Betty attended school in Muskogee, where she graduated from Historic Manual Training High School with the Class of 1962. She accepted Christ as her personal Savior at a young age and was a member of New Jerusalem Baptist church for many years. Later, she united with Fountain Baptist Church under the Pastoral guidance of Reverend Douglas Sells. She remained a faithful member until her health began to fail. In spite of her declining health, she continued periodically under her new Pastor's leadership, whom she loved dearly, Reverend Don Sells.
On Sunday evening, March 30, 2008, Betty Jean Green quietly surrendered her soul to Jesus from Muskogee Regional Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her parents and four children.
Betty leaves to celebrate her homegoing; her loving and only son, Larry Green; her grandchildren, Larry Jr., Jasmine, LaKia, Elisha, Tiara, Shalara and Davion; a special, great-niece, Dorothy McDowell; special nieces that were raised with her as sisters, Lorene James, Ohio and Pataricia Houston Porter, Muskogee, Oklahoma; special friends, Leonard Kinard, Lonnie Porter and Reverend Willie Cooper; a friend tha tloved her as a sister, Evangelist Louise and Archie Lewis; and all of her extended family, Darrell, Billie, Herman, Gina and Malski, who will miss her dearly.
The farewell will be on Saturday, April 5, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. in the St. Mark Baptist Church. Rev. Anthony L. Scott, Sr., the gracious host Pastor and Rev. Don Sells, Pastor of Fountain Baptist Church, Officiating. Burial will follow in the Booker T. Washington Cemetery.
