Obituary

A baby girl was born to Mildred and William Conley near the community of Haskell in Muskogee County, Oklahoma on December 23, 1938. She was the eighth of ten children in the family and was named Birdie Dean.

The family moved to Boynton, Oklahoma in January of 1940 and while still yet at an impressionable age, she confessed her hope in Christ and united with Mount Pleasant African Methodist Episcopal Methodist Church.

She received her early education at Cloud Creek School and finished at Boynton High School with the Class of 1957. After graduation, Sister Birdie moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma and united with the Saint Luke Baptist Church under the Pastoral leadership of the late Reverend W. L. Wimbush. She served the Lord faithfully in the Choir and the Young Matron's Chorus.

While she was still in school, she was acquainted with a handsome young man, Bobbie Thompson, who would soon leave Boynton to enter into the military. However, upon his return after his honorable service, they re-connected and love was in the air. They were united in Holy Matrimony on December 5, 1965.

After 72 years with us, Sister Birdie Dean Thompson ' went home to be with Jesus" on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 from Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and three sisters. She leaves to lament her passing; her husband, Bobbie Joe Thompson, of the home in Boynton; four brothers, Willie Lee Conley, Palo Alto, California, Arnett Conley, Clemenza Conley and David Conley, all of Tulsa, Oklahoma; along with a host of other relatives, Church family and friends.

Service of Memory will be held on Friday, December 23, 2011 at 11:00 A.M., graveside ceremony at the National Cemetery in Fort Gibson, Oklahoma. Superintendant Clarence Wilson will officiate.
