A precious gift was born to Jimmy and Leona Isom on August 14, 1949 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It was a bouncing baby girl. They named her Brenda. She became a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, where she was baptized at an early age, and even then felt a call to mission work. Her early school days were spent at Dunbar Elementary in Tulsa, Junior High at Marion Anderson, and from there she attended Booker T. Washington High School where she learned her life long trade in cosmetology, culminating with her graduation with the Class of 1967. While at Booker T. Washington, she was also co-captain of the cheer squad.
At age 20 years old, she met and later married her husband of 37 years, Rev. Harold Carter. A short time later, she joined Grace Apostolic Temple, located at 1019 E. 54th Street North in Tulsa, where she was re-baptized in the name of Jesus and received the precious gift of the Holy Ghost. While at Grace, she became an Intermediate Sunday School teacher, and went on to hold several offices in the church. First she was appointed choir president where she encouraged growth in number, and spear headed a fund raiser to purchase new robes, which was a very successful endeavor. She later became local missionary president, and during the her tenure received many awards on the state level. She was also a gifted minister of the gospel, operating in the gifts of the spirit.
From there she was elected to a state position in the missionary department, and later was appointed president because of vacancy, where she excelled with the help of a very good staff. Her work in the state missionary department continued until she was called up by the Lord. In 2001, she and her husband were called into the pastorate in Bartlesville, Oklahoma under the supervision of Pastor D.O. Tyler. There she made her home of the last two years. She was a person with a pleasing personality, and a sweet disposition, and was liked by many but was loved by the love of Jesus. Her favorite scripture was Phillippians 4:13, and her favorite song was "God will make a way somehow."
She lived a full exciting and prosperous life and on Tuesday, March 24, 2009 she was called out of this earth to meet the Lord. Meeting her on the other side: her father, Jimmy Isom, mother, Leona Isom; brother, Jackie Isom.
