As Christians, we believe that on December 25, Christ the son of God
was born. But on December 25, 1939, another son was born, this child
was the son of Author McJunkins and Levator Cunningham and they named
him Calvin Lee.
Better known to family and friends as Toby or Mac, he attended
elementary school in Huttonville, Oklahoma and graduated from
Rentiesville High School. He also attended and graduated from Connors
State College in Warner, Oklahoma with a degree in Criminal Law.
Mac enlisted in the United States Air Force in April of 1963 during the
Vietnam War. He met and later married Gladys Marie Lewis and from this
union, a son, Michael was born. After more than 23 of active duty,
Calvin retired from the Air Force and was employed at the Veterans
Administration Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri for 12 years.
Mac retired from there and moved to Oklahoma to try his hand as a
rancher, where he raised cattle.
Toby enjoyed life and spent his later days riding the ranch and
live-stock shopping with his buddy and pal, Rayfield "Crimp" Robinson.
Mac also enjoyed cooking, especially large pots of food for family,
which they named the "Mac Junk Pot." Calvin had faith and believed in
God. He was an active member of the D.A.V. Chapter in Muskogee, the
American Legion Post 21 in Checotah and also the Rentiesville School
Alumni Association, as well as serving many years as a councilman for
the township of Rentiesville. He was also a member of the McIntosh
County Cattleman's Association.
His favorite parting words were "take care", never saying goodbye.
Calvin Lee McJunkins, in his 73rd year, said "take care" to us on earth
and was preceded in death by his mother and father, and his hero and
grandfather that raised him, D. . Cunningham.
He leaves to lament his death; a son, Michael A. [Deidre] McJunkins;
his grandsons, Mychael Calvin and Christopher, St. Ann, Missouri; his
sister, Diana Lynn [Wesley] Mann, Wichita, Kansas; his niece, Pamela
Davis and his nephew, Jeremy, both of Wichita, Kansas; four favorite
Aunts, Euretha Harris, Raytown, Missouri, Alma Jean Davis, Huttonville,
Oklahoma, Connie [Leon] Gilyard, Checotah, Oklahoma and Charlesetta
[Lucious] Warrior, Rentiesville, Oklahoma; two uncles, Elmer [Mary]
