Obituary

Camilla "Peggy" White, age 72 of Tulsa, passed away on Friday, October 12, 2018. She was born to the late Roy Jones and Viola Smith on July 20, 1946. With the help of her great-grandparents she grew to be the women we all knew and loved.

Peggy attended Dunbar elementary and Carver middle school and graduated from Booker T. Washington high school (Class of 1964), before attending Northeastern University (NEO) for one year. She was an active member in both her school and church. Peggy attended Friendship Missionary Baptist Church for many years where she served on the Women's missionary board, the Young Adult ministry and was a member of the Seasoned Sisters. She later joined the church her son pastors, New Salem Baptist Church in Okmulgee Oklahoma.

While attending Dunbar elementary, Peggy met and later married the love of her life, Elvernon White, Sr., on September 9, 1965. The couple remained in Tulsa, but traveled extensively while raising their four children.

Peggy began her career at Big Ben'sTailor shop, where she became an exemplary seamstress. She went on to work at Jackson Day Care and later worked at The Salvation Army, where she retired in 1997.

Peggy is survived by three of her children, Harold White (Renna), Teresa Ann White and Shauna Lynn White. Both Elvernon White Sr. and her youngest son, Elvernon White, Jr. preceded her in death. She also leaves to mourn, her sister, Detra (Clarence) Isadore of Valejo, CA; eight grandchildren (including one who preceded her in death); four great-grandchildren; a sister-in law, Ossie "Cookie" McQuarters; two brother-in-laws, Aaron (Marilyn) Smith and Mondo White and a number of other loving relatives and close friends.
