Obituary

On May 21, 1958, a Queen was born. She was born to Imojean Harris and Joe Gibbs in Okmulgee, Oklahoma and they named her Caren Annette Gibbs. She was affectionately known as "Kay Baby, Momma and Grandma Kay."


She received her education in the Okmulgee Public Schools , including the Historic Dunbar High School. She graduated with the Okmulgee High School Class of 1976. She later attended Draughon School of Business, obtaining a business administration degree.


On June 18, 1974, Caren became a mother to a beautiful daughter, LaKena Kay Cooks. Then, on May 24, 1978, she gave birth to a bouncing, handsome boy, Deon Marque Dixon. Also, 6 years later, on September 6, 1984, Caren birthed another beautiful baby girl, BaNesha Shaunta [Cooks] Davis.


Later in life, Caren married Kenneth Deckard and they were married for 20+ years. She was employed by Alliance Wall and also Ball Brothers for over 20 years. She loved music, singing, playing the clarinet, cooking and family gatherings.


On May 29, 2021, Caren gained her wings and peacefully transitioned to eternal rest with the love of her family surrounding her.
She leaves to cherish her memory; her husband, Kenneth Deckard; her children; LaKena Cooks, Deon [Tia} Dixon and BaNesha [Eddie] Davis; her mother, Imojean Tuggle; her Father, Joe Gibbs; her sisters, Tammy [Steven] McFalls, Mia [Steven] Metcalf and her brother, Anthony [Hollis] Tuggle; her grandchildren, Sy'Von and Tre'len Reagan, Nautica, Kierra Cassius, Dream and Boston Dixon, Essence, Eddie III, Kristopher, Kendall and Madison Davis; along with a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins and friends.

The final hour with Caren will commence on Saturday afternoon, June 5, 2021 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Peace of the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc., of Okmulgee.  Reverend Eddie Davis, Sr., Pastor of Mt. Olive Baptist Church of Tulsa, will officiate.
