Obituary

Mother Carrie C. Walker, in her 95th season, surrendered to the will of the Lord on Sunday morning September 18, 2010 from Atlanta, Georgia.

95 years ago, in Gooseneck Bend, Oklahoma, Carrie Carolina Hyche Hunt Walker was born on August 14, 1915, the 3rd of 8 children to the late James Sr., and Dora Dortch Hyche.


At an early age, she accepted Christ as her Savior. She united with Mt. Bethel Baptist Church in Porter, OK. in 1951, after moving to Muskogee, she united with St. Mark Baptist Church, where she lovingly served until 2002, when ill health forced her to move to Atlanta, Georgia to live with her daughter. However, she remained a faithful member at St. Mark until her death.


In 1936, she united in marriage to T. J. Hunt, Sr., and from this union, 3 children were born; Carletha, Lillie Mae and T. J. Jr. After his death, she met and in 1942, was united in marriage to Ellis Walker, Sr. 5 children were born to this union; Willie Charles [W.C.], Betty, Ellis Jr., Alex and Dave.


On Sunday, September 19, 2010, Mother Walker, surrounded by loving family and caregivers, dozed into the peaceful slumber of eternal rest. She was preceded in death by her parents, both spouses, a sister, Irene Hyce Miller, her brothers, Claudy Hyche, James Hyche, Harding Hyche and Bernice "Bunny" Hyche, as well as a son, T. J. Hunt, Jr.


She leaves to lament her passing; 3 daughters, Carletha Hunt, Lillie Mae Wright [James] and Betty Morrison; 4 sons, Willie Charles Walker [Carol], Ellis Walker Jr. [Loretta], Alex Walker [Sharon] and Dave Walker [Debra]; an adopted son, Charles Mason; a sister, Beatrice Carter; her brother Frazier Hyche; 22 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; along with a caravan of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.


The Sacred Farewell will commence on Saturday afternoon, September 26, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. in the St. Mark Baptist Church. The Pastor, Rev. Ray Pickett, will officiate, and Minister Carrie Coulter White will give the Eulogy. The Christian committal will follow in Booker T. Washington Cemetery.
