On December 1, 1940, a bouncing baby boy was delivered to Carrie Minifee, and Herman Bowden in Tulsa, Oklahoma. They named this bundle of joy Charles Magellen Bowden. Mr. Bowden would grow up to be
the man of Mrs. Lillian Bowden's dreams. A high school athlete who had the natural ability to run like the wind. A kind, gentle, good man. A young man who was drafted into the Army on November 23, 1966, just eight days before his 26th birthday, and served proudly in the Vietnam War. Realizing his position as the oldest soldier in his combat infantry, he chose to be point man, or the man out front. He lead his fellow soldiers with an instinct of sensing the many hidden dangers of the terrain. Avoiding enemy gun fire, but unable to avoid Agent Orange, a chemical dusted over the terrain via air. After battling it for 39 years, Mr. C. Magellen Bowden answered His Master's Call on March 2, 2007.
Mr. Bowden is a celebrated man who served his country proudly and was commended as he received the following honors: Marksman, National Defense Service, 3 bronze stars, 2 O/S bars, Combat Infantry Men's Badges, President Unit Citation, Army Commendation Medal, and a Purple Heart after rescuing and saving the life of a fellow soldier. He was a magnificent husband and father. The Lord truly sent a Blessing in Mr. C. Magellen Bowden. He leaves to cherish his precious memories: his wife, best friend, and watchful caretaker, Lillian H. Bowden four daughters, four sons, sixteen grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.
Services for Mr. Bowden will be held Wednesday, March 7, 2007 at 10AM in the All Faiths Chapel. Friends may visit Mr. Bowden as he slumbers from 12Noon to 7PM at the funeral home.
