Obituary

On the Morning of Monday November 29, 2021, Mr. Charles Lee Hawkins, in his 80th Year received his Wings.

Mr. Charles Lee Hawkins, Sr., after 80 years, transitioned from life to everlasting on Monday, November 29, 2021. He was born on September 7, 1941 to Lee and Roberta Hawkins in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. He was the fifth of six children.

Just before graduation from Dunbar High School, he chose to serve in the US Air Force. Stationed in California, he worked in the Commissary and Post Office. After his service, he returned to Okmulgee and worked as a barber downtown, at the PPG glass plant in Henryetta, and at East Central Electric, where he retired.

On June 20, 1961, Charles married Etholia Marie Brinkley. They had four children: Charles Jr., Rodney, Maurice, and Cheryl. As the kids grew up, Charles passed to them his love for sports and the outdoors, especially fishing. Charles and his best friend Mack Davis LOVED to fish and eat breakfast together. They tell a story of catching over 100 fish in their favorite spot. Charles was very active until his sight began to diminish. Charles was a member of Greater Jones Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church where he faithfully served, even with his failing health.
He was met in "Glory" by his wife Etholia Marie, his father and mother, two sisters: Rachel and Hettie Lee, and two brothers: Dan and Robert. Those left to cherish his memory: brother Orsbon, sister-in-law Edna, and brother-in-law Leroy "Bootsie" Brinkley. Three sons: Charles Jr. (Eunice), Rodney, Maurice (Patricia), and one daughter Cheryl. Grandchildren: Jason, Juan, Sheena, DeAnte, Charisse (Eddie), Adrian, Danielle, Roderick, and Chyra, 15 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, December 11, at 1PM at First Baptist Church.
