On September 2, 1924 a gift from God was delivered to Charlie and Hattie Hicks in Gary, Oklahoma they named him Charles Edward Hicks. At an impressionable age, Charles put on Christ according to Acts 2:38 and was added to the body of Christ. Charles attended the 11th street Church of Christ and Chisholm Trail Church of Christ until his demise.
When Mr. Hicks matriculated from high school, he had begun taking classes at Langston College in Langston, Oklahoma. On September 3, 1949 Charles was smitten and married Harriett White in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. To this union one child was born Brenda Joyce Hicks.
Charles had an overwhelming passion for Christ, and the Church. Charles exhibited this love through his work for the Lord. In 1976 God used Charles as an instrument to help develop the 11th street bus program and was also very influential in the children's ministry.
Charles led an active and productive life. He loved his cowboy hat's, dining at Red Lobster and Golden Coral. Charles also loved going to Wichita State Shocker sporting events. He spent many late nights with friend's playing cards and dominoes. His most important passion was supporting his grandson Marcus by attending Newman University and York College basketball games where Marcus is the head coach.
After 82 seasons Charles E. Hicks, with his loving family at his side traded in his cowboy hat, for a "Mansion, Robe and Crown" on Wednesday evening, April 25, 2007. He was preceded in death by his wife, Harriett and his daughter Brenda.
Those that wait on the Lord; his loving grandson, Marcus Hicks and his wife Brandy of York, Nebraska; a son, Chuck Edwards of Oklahoma City, Charles's special companion Ms. Johnnie Morgan, along with other relatives and friends who will miss his presence.
