Obituary

On April 22, 1947, a son was born to Ollie Mae Mayberry and Hezzie Hollis. They named him Charles Wayne Hollis. The fifth of ten children, he was the baby boy and never let his siblings forget it. He grew up in Haskell, Oklahoma attending the C.M.E Church and Booker T. Washington School where he was active in sports.
Charles served in the US Marine Corps from 1966 until 1969. During his tour in Vietnam he was awarded Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation, Navy Unit Commendation, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal with Four Stars and the Vietnamese Campaign Medal with Device.

However, his greatest award came when he was later stationed at the Naval Weapon Station in Newport News, VA, where he met his soul mate, Rachel Ann Byrd. Together they raised eight beautiful children which he referred to as "my flowers". There is much to say about the life of Charles Hollis Sr. What he was most proud of is that he was a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and a friend who loved us all.
Ephesians 2:8 teaches, "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is a gift of God." That very gift released him from the clutches of the world and he was placed back into the Father's house. In 2008, he returned to his roots joining Wilson Chapel C.M.E Church in Coweta, OK.

On April 18, 2013, Charles was called home to be with our Lord joining his parents; two brothers, LeArtis Harris, Leroy Pierson; three sisters, Marilyn Robinson, Geneva Carson and Anita Beys. He leaves to lament his death; his devoted wife of 42 years, Rachel, his children: Estella Adkism (Donnie), Charles Hollis II of Tulsa, OK., Jerod Hollis (Nicole), Charmen Hollis, Oklahoma City, OK., Charles Hollis, Jr., Geneva Hollis, Marilyn Hollis, Broken Arrow, OK., Kiesha White, Elissa Hansard, Tulsa, OK., 31 grandchildren, 7 great- grandchildren, four sisters: Barbara Jackson(Clifford), Patricia Gist(John), Mary Carson and Arlene Melenciano, brother Sylvester Hollis (Jeanetta), along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services for Mr. Charles W. Hollis will be Friday August 26, 2013 at Wilson Chapel CME Church in Coweta at 11AM. Friends may visit Mr. Hollis in our Tulsa Chapel on Thursday from 10AM until 7PM.
