Obituary

Charles O. Jones was born March 1, 1944 to Nazerene Irene Morton and Otis Jones in Preston, Oklahoma. He received his education in Tulsa and Oklahoma City. As a teenager he worked for Coca Cola. While employed there he was given the nickname "Lil Chick." He worked with a gentleman that had delivered Coca Cola by horse and buggy. Big Chick was also the first black man to work for the company.

He served his country for two years during the Vietnam Era. In 1986 he met and married Gloria L. Jordan, to this union one child was born. He joined the Oak Hill Baptist Church in 2003 under the leadership of Rev. Allen C. Jordan, Sr. He also attended from the heart church ministries where his wife is a member.

Charles had impeccable work ethics. He worked for Zeligson Trucking Company for 28 years until the company relocated. He retired from Belger Cartage Service after 18 years, due to his failing health. Charles also owned his own lawn service. He loved working in the yard, he often stated that it relaxed him. He was known as the "Lawn Picasso" by his original customers.

A kind, loving and compassionate man, he was the first to help if he knew someone had a need. He fed every stray cat and dog that passed through his neighborhood. He could not stand the fact something or someone was hungry. Charles will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those who remain to cherish his memory: his wife Gloria, children Stuart, Jennifer Jones, Washington, D.C., and Charles Jones, Jr. of Tulsa, OK, his sister Annaretta Robinson, Oklahoma City, OK, his brother Jimmy L. James, Birmingham, AL, two aunts: Viola Collier, Tulsa, OK, Luella Pride (Johnny), Owasso, OK, two uncles: Clarence Morton, Los Angeles, CA, and Earl Simmons, Los Angeles, CA, and his sister-in law Anjeanetta Clemons, along with a host of cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, and Mrs. Mildred Tent who he affectionately called "Ma."
