On February 7, 1941, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, a baby boy was born to the proud parents of Dan McClain and Savannah Wicks. This new son was given the name Charles Dee McClain.
Charles spent much of his young lif in Oklahoma City, attending school in the area. Later in life, he and his mother, along with his step-father, Reverend John Yochum, moved to Muskogee, Oklahoma, where Reverend Yochum pastored Jerusalem Baptist Church.
Charles continued his education in Muskogee, where he graduated from Historic Manual Training High School with the proud Class of 1960. After graduation, Charles met Barbara Teague. He and Barbara moved to Los Angeles, California and became one. From this union, three beautiful girls were born. This union was later dissolved.
While in California, Charles became a truck driver for several companies. He enjoyed driving the big Semi trucks, traveling all throughout the United States.
Charles acquired the nickname, "Stick," from his friends in California. This name was given of his favorite 1957 Red and White Chevrolet Car. The car was a stick shift, which is the only type of vehicle he would drive.
He enjoyed living in California, meeting people, and taking care of his family. His favorite pasttime was playing pool.
Charles moved back to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to take care of his mother, who later passed away. While residing in Oklahoma City, he was hired by the Oklahoma City School system, where he became a bus driver for 4 years. In 2000, he retired from his labors.
In 2004, Mr. McClain's health began to fail, which required him to move to Muskogee, Oklahoma. He resided at Broadway Manor Health Care Center with his new family. He enjoyed the staff as well as the nurses and they fell in love with him.
On September 12, 2007, Charles received a call; it was from the Master. Charles began talking with the Master; informing him of his situation, a proposition was made, to come to a better place to rest. Charles said yes; then he left! Those who preceded him in death; his father, Dan McClain, his mother, Savannah Wicks and his step-father, Reverend John Yochum.
He leaves to cherish fond memories; six daughters, Kathy Frith Jordan [Lonnie], Hayward, California, Janiqua McClain, Palm Dale, California, Yolanda McClain, Lancaster, California, Dale McClain, Lancaster, California, Audrey Rucker [Steve], Muskogee, Oklahoma, and Janin McCLain, Monroe, Louisiana; a son, Charles McClain, Jr., Palm Dale, California; his father-in-law, Albert Teague, Wichita, Kansas; brother-in-law, Raymond Teague, Sr., Muskogee, Oklahoma; 21 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and his special family at Broadway Manor Health Center.
The tribute will be on Saturday, September 22, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. in the Elohim Love Center Ministries. The Pastor, Reverend Steve Rucker, will officiate. The Christian committal will follow in the Booker T. Washington Cemetery in Muskogee.
