It all began in Denison, Texas, when Charles H. and Elnora [Wardlow] Morrison celebrated the birth of a son on May 21, 1943. They named him Charles Edward Morrison.
Charles grew up in Muskogee, Oklahoma, where he graduated from Historic Manual Training High School with the Class of 1961. He lived his life to serve others, evident through his dedication and love for God, his family and his community.
Mr. Morrison married the love of his life, Barbara Jean Stewart on March 27, 1965. He lived to love his bride and together, they shared 4 children; Michael, Lesly, Jeremiah and Krystal. After retiring from 28 years of service to I.B.M., he and his wife spent their time fostering youth. Together, they returned to Muskogee , where Charles almost immediately began giving back to the community he was raised in. He was elected President of the local chapter of the N.A.A.C.P., served as a board member with the National Association for Criminal Justice, Green Country Behavioral Health, Neighbors Building Neighbors, the Bridges out of Poverty program and the Phoenix News Neighborhood Input Board. He was very active in his community and to know him was to love him.
Among his many hobbies, Charles was known for being "The Man" on the bass and the saxophone. He was an active band member in his church and enjoyed making people feel his love for music.
Charles was a faithful, devoted member of New Jerusalem Baptist Church, joining under the pastoral leadership of the late Pastor Ralph E. Boyattia, and continuing to serve under Pastor Emeritus Perline Boyattia and Pastor Roscoe Beasley. He served the Lord faithfully, even unto death.
Charles E. Morrison life's Sojourn, after 75 years, came to a close on Monday morning, November 19, 2018, surrounded by his loving family with his favorite music comforting in the background. He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Lesly Morrison-Porter.
