On October 31, 1952, Herbert Smith Sr. and Mildred Brown-Smith were blessed with a baby boy, the 3rd of 10 children born to this union. Charles attended Dunbar High School, Class of 1971.
Charles was raised in the Church of the Living God in Okmulgee. He accepted God at an early age. He worked at Rebold Manor, Brightwater Apartments in Tulsa and Dart Box Co. in OKC. In his spare time he enjoyed picking wild onions and gathering pecans. He loved watching movies, especially westerns and sports. He was a Kansas City Chief fan. He loved spending time with his nephews who lovingly called him Uncle Smokey or Uncle Bean.
Charles touched the lives of many people and was considered a friend by all. His family was his foundation and his answer for everything.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father and two brothers, Kevin Laron Smith and Rickey Lee Smith; two sisters, Helen Marie Williams and Sharon Ann Arterberry; one daughter, Ebony Smith.
He leaves to witness his transition, two daughters, Takisha Smith Collins and Neci Collins and five grandchildren, Tulsa, Ok; two brothers, Herbert (Linda) Smith Jr., Okmulgee, OK, and Gerald Wayne Smith of OKC; four sisters, Mary Smith Whittaker, Tulsa, Ok, Donna Williams of Tulsa, OK, Dianne (John Walton) Smith of Okmulgee, OK and Raina Kaye (Patrick Overstreet) Smith of Tulsa, OK; one aunt, Beatrice Smith (wife of the late Bishop Thomas Smith Jr.) Tulsa, Ok. along with longtime friend Marilyn Celestine of Okmulgee, Ok. And a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.
The Service of Memory for Mr. Smith will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 12 Noon in the Church of the Living God, Osage Avenue and Lafayette Street in Okmulgee. Elder W. H. Cummings, Pastor, will officiate and Elder Clifford Morgan will give the Eulogy.
