Obituary

Mrs. Cherrye Jeannine Lemons, in her 52nd year, Transitioned unto Eternal Rest, on Wednesday October 10, 2012 in Plano, Texas. Her celebratory services are currently pending in Oklahoma City.

Cherrye "Jeannine" Lemons was born July 10, 1960 to Edna V. Hayes and S.L. Nelson. She was the oldest of four siblings, LaDonna Lee (mother), Douglas Nelson(father), Torlin Nelson(father). She was raised by her mother with a solid Christian foundation, who taught her to always trust and depend of Jesus. At the age of nine, she attended Friendship Baptist Church, where she led the youth choir, accepted Jesus as her personal Lord and Savior, and was baptized. She graduated from Douglas High School in 1978, where she met and married her high school sweetheart Carl Wayne Lemons Sr. at the age of 17.

God blessed this union with four children, Carl Wayne Lemons Jr., John Jay Lemons, Kia De'Shawn Lemons, and Shardae Trenial Lemons. As she was united to her husband in marriage, she was also united with his family, she did not have a mother in law, she had another mother in Emma Yvonne Lemons. Her husband's sisters and brother were like her very own. She made no distinction between her nieces and nephews, they all belonged to her.

She and her husband moved to Texas in 1984, and she became a member of Sims Chapel Missionary Baptist Church where she served as an usher, under the leadership of Pastor, A. Louis Patterson III. Cherrye was a loving, loyal, strong willed and dedicated wife, mother, sister, and friend. She was outspoken and stood by the principles and faith she believed. She enjoyed politics, a good debate, and supported President Barack Obama, as if he were a part of her family. She enjoyed laughing, spending time with friends, and most of all family gatherings. She was a proud grandmother of Kai, Isaiah, Jace, Braylen, Joshua, Jordyn, Macaiah, Amaya, and was highly anticipating the arrival of her ninth grandchild. As a mother, she raised her children to love the LORD, taught them to always stay close, and never allow the sun to set with anger in your heart for anyone.

The Celebration to honor her Life & Legacy will be Friday, October 19, 2012 at one hour before noon in the most holy sanctuary of Friendship Baptist Church, 2017 North Martin Luther King Avenue Oklahoma City, OK.

Friends may visit Mrs. Lemons on Thursday from 10AM until 7PM at The McKay-Davis Mortuary located at 1616 NE 36th Street in Oklahoma City. Flowers may be delivered during this time at the funeral home.
