On a great day in the fall of 1951, Phillip and Geraldine [Peoples] Kelley gave birth to a beautiful little girl on the 10th of September and was named Chylene Kelley.
Chylene was loved by everyone she met, even as a little girl. She was born in Checotah, Oklahoma, where she grew up and also attended Checotah High School. She furthered her education at Northeastern State College and Connors State College, She taught school for many years in the Muskogee Public School System and the Atlanta Public Schools in Georgia before her health began to fail.
Chylene took great pride in being a wife and mother to her sons. She was a devout Christian and accepted Christ early in life. The people she prayed for would always say "her prayers reached Heaven." She was a prayer warrior, even through difficult times.
After "three-score years" with us on Earth, on August 13, 2012, the Heavens opened and sent Angels to greet our beloved one, Chylene Sallis. She was greeted at the Pearly Gates by her father, mother, grandparents, her youngest brother, Norman and several Aunts and Uncles. We will miss her but her life story will live on through the precious memories she leaves to be cherished.
Those that remain to wait on the Lord; her devoted husband of 40 years, Ruben Sallis, Jr.; her sons, Ruben Sallis, III and Byron Sallis; her grandchildren, Ruben Markel Gaines, Deauntia DeShea Jones-Sallis; a great-granddaughter, Naviah LeShai Irene Jones; six siblings, Blater Levette Taylor [Alvin], Phillip Kelley, Jr., Lewis Kelley, Patty Alikor-Lankster [Bryant], Keith Kelley [Debra], Arpanda Banks; special brothers-in-law, Calvin Sallis [Susie], Sylvester Sallis [Lillie]; a faithful, loving father-in-law, Ruben Sallis, Sr., whom she called "Papa Sallis"; her sister-in-law, TeJuana Sallis; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The Final Hour of sharing will commence on Monday, August 20, 2012 at 11:00 AM in the Praise Center Family Church. Pastor Stephen Wiley is the gracious Host and Pastor Phillip Kelley, Officiant.
