Obituary

On October 6, 1949, Tyree and Jean [Embry] Griffin, Sr. were blessed with a son in Muskogee, Oklahoma. He was given the name Cleophus Griffin.

Better known as "Cleo" to family and friends, he received his education in the Muskogee Public School system. He attended Historic Manual Training High School, and after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp, where he served his country Honorably during the Vietnam War.

After his discharge from service, Cleo began a career at the Veteran's Administration Regional Medical Center in Muskogee, where he continued to be a faithful employee until his retirement.

Mr. Griffin married Vanessa Gail Harvey on December 5, 1983 and they lived a long life together until the Lord called Leo home. On December 23, 2017, Cleophus Griffin, Sr., with his loving family by his side, made his transition from "Life to Everlasting" ! He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Jean Harrison, along with other relatives who went on before him.

He leaves to miss but never forget; his devoted wife, Vanessa Gail Griffin, of the home in Muskogee; his children, Gerald and Jerome Mills, Walisa McLain, Tamecca Dansby, Iman Griffin, Kizzy Griffin, and Cleophus Griffin, Jr.; his grandchildren, Romonne, Alyih, Keely, Coryon, Kayden, and Emmanuel; his sister and brother, Evelyn Shields and Tyree Griffin, Jr.; his mother-in-law, Yvonne Chandler; his nieces and nephews, Tasha and Nicole, Jamie, Corey, Tyree Jr., Brian, Angela, Carlos and Tori; his good friend, Shy Willie; along with a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.

The Final Salute to Mr. Griffin will commence on Wednesday morning, January 3, 2018 at 10:00 AM in the Antioch Church, 500 West Broadway.  The Pastor, Dr. Marlon J. Coleman will officiate.  Burial will follow in the National Cemetery in Fort Gibson at 12:00 Noon.

You may visit Cleo, as he slumbers in peaceful repose at the Antioch Church on Tuesday from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM.
